forma tried to swallow, but her throat was so dry she almost choked. She could feel her lips cracked, like old paper about to tear. What the hell happened? she thought, her mind a complete mess.

A gentle, yet slightly cold voice broke through the noise in her head. "Waking up, little mouse?"

forma's blood ran cold. She tried to turn her head, but her neck felt stiff, like a log that had sat out in the sun too long. She could feel strong hands beneath her, holding her firmly in place. Her eyes snapped open, only to meet a pair of piercing, yet strangely gentle, eyes.

"And here I thought I'd never see the day," the voice continued, laced with a hint of irony. "You actually managed to survive my little 'welcome present'."

forma's heart pounded in her chest. She recognized that voice. It belonged to the man who had haunted her dreams and nightmares for as long as she could remember. The man she had sworn to never see again. The man she thought had killed her.
